3.00 – Newbury – Lorelina. 1 pt e/w. Available at 10/1. |
There are plenty of potential improvers in this race including Enstar, Alyday, Qamarain, Shufoog and Blind Faith. However it may be worth taking a chance on the Filly, Lorelina who gets in here off bottom weight. She won over a mile at Chepstow and an extended mile at Epsom in June/July and has been placed in her two subsequent starts. In both races she was strong at the finish and this step up to ten furlongs for the first time could unlock further improvement. She is bred for it and runs from her correct mark here after running from three pounds out of the handicap last time out. |
3.20 – Cheltenham – Dadsintrouble. 1.5 pts e/w. Available at 8/1. |
This is a competitive early season handicap hurdle. Slight preference is for Dadsintrouble who showed a modicum of ability in Maiden/Novice races the season before last before starting out in handicaps in two starts last season. Allocated an initial mark of 109 he won cosily on his first start in 11 months at Wicanton over two miles in soft ground and followed that with a third in a better race at Newton Abbot over an extended 21 furlongs on fast ground. That form looks solid and, although this is his first race since May, he has shown he goes well fresh. The yard have been in very good form over the past three months and their representative here looks on an exploitable mark. |
3.45 – Doncaster – Burnt Sugar. 1 pt e/w. Available at 16/1. |
Given his form since he ran well in the Wokingham at Royal Ascot Burnt Sugar can only be a speculative selection to take this very competitive sprint. He has run better than his fibal finishing position suggests on occasions this season and that was the case when beating only two home over seven furlongs at Ascot last time out. He raced on an unfavoured part of the track and had to switch round the field to try and make his challenge. It was a futile attempt and his jockey soon accepted the situation. He started this campaign on a mark of 106 and he is now ten pounds lower, so he is certainly weighted to get competitive at the very least. He could be well drawn and he should get a good tow into the race from Solar Flair who is drawn next to him. His connections acquired him at the sales in July and it’s hard not to believe that the purchase was made for these big field sprints. He is partnered by a good, in-form claimer who is riding with plenty of confidence. |
